Actor George Lowe, best known as the voice of Space Ghost on the iconic Cartoon Network series Space Ghost Coast to Coast and beyond, died Sunday (March 2) at the age of 67, his family confirmed in a statement to the A.V. Club on Tuesday (March 4).
“George Lowe’s family has been grief stricken and unable to respond regarding his passing, on March 02, 2025, until now,” the statement reads. “George Lowe had elective heart surgery and as he recovered, was met with many challenges. Over the past few months, his family and friends have been by his side in support and care for him. The family will honor his wishes and his exceptional life with a private celebratory service.”
Space Ghost writer, rapper fellow voice actor MC Chris had previously confirmed that Lowe had been suffering from health issues, including an aortic dissection that had twice required intubation in a post shared on his X account in 2023.
"A fan wrote me concerned that they hadn't heard from George Lowe (aka Space Ghost) on Facebook fot a long time so I checked in on him," he wrote. "He's actually had some health problems, had a bad February which required an aortic dissection and he had to be intubated twice and we came close to losing him. He's been in a nursing home and rehab and has had to return to the hospital as well to get his medication corrected. He now has a nurse looking after him in his home in Florida."
Lowe continued his role as Space Ghost on its spinoff, Cartoon Planet, as well as several other series, including an episode of Jellystone last year, as well as other roles on Cartoon Network and Adult Swim shows in recent years.
