Reba McEntire shared why she’s not walking down the aisle just yet.
The legendary country star, 71, has been engaged to actor Rex Linn, 69, since late 2024. The couple previously hinted at wedding details; however, they don’t seem to have plans to say “I do” any time soon. McEntire told E! News earlier this week: “We're just waiting until we have an open spot to have the wedding. Get it planned. Print those invitations.” The outlet noted that fellow Happy’s Place cast member Belissa Escobedo hailed McEntire and Linn “two of the busiest people,” who “always” have something new in the works. McEntire posted on Instagram on Friday (August 14) that “we’re officially back in production on the third season of [Happy’s Place]…it’s like a family reunion!” The sitcom’s third season is due to premiere on NBC and Peacock in October.
McEntire previously told E! News that ongoing projects prompted the couple to postpone the wedding. She said earlier this year, “that pushed the wedding back. …He says, ‘Work comes first.’”
Since then, the Oklahoma-born country star teased a “low-key” wedding in an interview with ExtraTV. McEntire said the couple’s friends, family and animals will be included in their big day. “I have two granddogs, Watson and Belle, so they may be the ring bearers or something like that, but we have to have our animals there. We’ve got longhorns and donkeys, horses and everything there at the place, cats, and we just, we have a lot of fun with them.” McEntire also said during an appearance on TODAY that “a Reba-Rex wedding is going to be very different. It’s gonna be low key, lots of fun, lots of people, lots of food. Our big motto is ‘have fun.’”
McEntire met Linn while filming Kenny Rogers’ The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw in the early ‘90s. The pair reconnected while filming Young Sheldon in early 2020. Linn asked McEntire to dinner (where they gave each other their nicknames, “tater tot” and “sugar tot,” McEntire previously reflected on The Jennifer Hudson Show), and they’ve “been together ever since.” McEntire and Linn publicly confirmed their engagement for the first time on the red carpet at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards in September 2025.
“He’s very romantic. Very romantic,” McEntire told PEOPLE after announcing their engagement. “And I asked him, I said, ‘well, when do you want to do this?’ He said, ‘oh…let’s have fun with the engagement time.’ So, we haven’t set a date or anything. We’re just enjoying each other.”
