Carly Pearce pretended she was “freaking out” during a prank call with Kelsea Ballerini.

Pearce prank called some friends, relatives and fellow artists on Elle’s “Phoning It In” segment, which the publication shared on Thursday (March 19). The “Church Girl” artist opted to call Ballerini to get her back for a prank call last year. Ballerini claimed she’d been hacked, and “incriminating stuff” involving the two country artists was on her phone. Pearce said at the time, “that’s hilarious and you scared the s*** out of me.”

Pearce explained din the new Elle clip that sh was supposed to hang out with Ballerini that evening, but she canceled earlier in the day. Pearce planned to tell Ballerini that she’d backed out because she hooked up with someone the night before and needed help.

“OK, I’m like freaking out,” Pearce said. “I totally lied to you about the fact that I was leaving. But now I’m in a really big problem and I need to talk to you about it.”

“Wait, what’s wrong? Are you OK?” Ballerini asked.

“I’m not. Last night, I went to a bar. I got f***ed up. I went to a guy’s hotel room…and I can’t tell my team, but I left all of my s*** at his place, and I need to you go with me to get it,” Pearce said.

Ballerini assured her that she would be back in town around 8 p.m., and she’d go pick up Pearce’s stuff on her behalf. Still stunned, she asked, “Why did you do that?”

“I don’t know! I don’t know why I did that. I’m like freaking out though,” Pearce replied.

“It’s gonna be fine. I need you to just breathe. I would not tell anyone else right now,” Ballerini said. “F***. …OK, i’t gonna be fine. We’re gonna figure it out. I’m gonna go get your s***.”

When Pearce revealed it was all a prank, Ballerini exclaimed, “I almost threw up in my car! I was like, ‘no way this b**** did this. That’s not — that’s not real.’

“I’m so sorry, Kelsea!” Pearce apologized through laughter. “I was like, ‘this is the only way I’m going to be able to get her.’ You are actually the best, though, that you were gonna go for me.”

“Dude, I was ready to ride til dawn,” Ballerini said. “You really got me! OK, well, I’m really glad that you’re making better life decisions than that.”

Throughout the “Phoning It In” clip, Pearce also faked a pregnancy scare on a prank call with her dad, suggested a fake public feud with Rita Wilson, warned Lauren Alaina about a fake wardrobe malfunction leak, and asked Michael Bublé whether she should start her career over and audition for The Voice.
