Maren Morris is working on new music!
The country singer was recently able to find some time in between all of her new motherly duties to write a song for the first time in a while. Morris describes the tune as "sad AF," although she notes that she's excited about how it turned out.
"I wrote my first song in forever today and it was sad AF. I’m so happy," Maren shared on Twitter alongside a crying face emoji.
Morris also responded to a fan's question about who she wrote with revealing that Natalie Hemby and Daniel Tashian served as co-writers on the new track. She also added that Hemby and Tashian are "2 people you can't have a bad day with."
Tashian is well-known for co-producing Kacey Musgraves' Grammy-winning album, Golden Hour, while Hemby is Morris' bandmate in The Highwomen and a writer on Morris' song, "RSVP."
Morris' most recent album, Girl, was released in 2019. The project gave her two major Number One hits including the album's title track, "Girl" followed by "The Bones."
Most recently, Morris shared two previously unreleased songs, "Just For Now" and "Takes Two."
The first track called "Just For Now" was written by Morris alongside her husband, Ryan Hurd and late producer Busbee, during sessions for her debut album Hero. The second, "Takes Two," come from the original recording sessions for Girl and was co-written by Morris with Sarah Aarons and Greg Kurstin.
For the upcoming ACM Awards, Morris leads among all nominees with five nods including Album of the Year for Girl, Female Artist of the Year and Musical Event of the Year for joining Miranda Lambert, Ashley McBryde, Tenille Townes, Caylee Hammack and Elle King on "Fooled Around and Fell in Love." Her fifth nomination is Group of the Year as a member of the female super group, The Highwomen.
Originally, the ACM Awards were supposed to take place on April 5, 2020, however due to the coronavirus pandemic they were moved to September 16, 2020. The show, hosted by reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year, Keith Urban, will air live on CBS at 8 PM ET from Nashville, Tennessee.
